Reading Workshop
4 nights - 30 minutes
Last week, we began reading "Blood on the River." Due to the early dismissal, we were unable to have our first book discussion on Friday. We are making up that discussion on Monday and will be quickly jumping into our next discussion on Tuesday. Students should prepare for our club meeting by answering the questions provided to them in class:
Tuesday we will discuss chapters 5-8
Thursday we will discuss chapters 9-14
Writing Workshop
Homework: Use your time to work on your math project. An important part of this project will be the typed up explanations/directions you include on your display. Please remember to apply all our grammar givens.
In Class: This week we will begin our intensive study of direct address. Students will be asked to notice how direct address is used in writing, identify it being used in a variety of texts, and apply it to their own writing. In addition to our focus lessons this week, students will also receive a small packet to continue to sharpen those grammar & mechanics skills that they have been learning over the years.
Math Workshop
3 nights - 30 minutes
Students should be focusing on planning, designing, creating, and typing information fro their math celebration presentation poster. This should be a teaching poster that shows the purpose of the project and provides background information for the audience. Students also need to practice giving their presentations while referring to their posters.
We are continuing Unit 7 this week! We will focus on:
- Renaming fractions as decimals and decimals as fractions
- Ordering sets of fractions
- Finding the whole, or the "one," for given fractions
- Reviewing basic ideas of probability
- Comparing predicted and actual results
Additional math practice this week might include online/SRB games such as: Over and Up Squares, Angle Add-Up, Fraction Top-It, Getting to One, and Chances Are.
