Reading Workshop
4 nights - 30 minutes
We are learning to first analyze our jots for similar concepts, thought paths, area of interest, confusion, etc. and then consider how we could bring interest and discussion around our thoughts in club meetings.
For example, I may find myself jotting a lot about particular scene in the book - perhaps my plan could be to reread that scene to my club and then ask them a question that would generate excitement around the topic I wished to develop in conversation.
Ultimately, we are looking to build conversation skills by engaging others before sharing our own ideas. Our goal in book clubs is for everyone to leave discussions with new understandings and thinking that has been created within the club discussion.
Writing Workshop
Homework: Work on your explorer storyboard project. *See Social Studies.
In Class: Students are working on creating complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions or "AAAWWUBBIS" words. We will challenge ourselves this week to apply our knowledge of subordinators in our writing; creating poems and/or short stories to display our understanding.

Word Study
Sort #5 Assessment on Thursday, November 5th
We have noticed three major concepts in our sort #5 words.
Noticings:
1) Digraphs – two letters that represent one sound. The most common digraphs are sh, ch, th, and wh.
2) Dipthongs – a speech sound beginning with one vowel sound and moving to another in the same syllable (ex: boy or cloud)
3) Accented Syllables – syllables that are emphasized or stressed parts of a word.
