Reading Workshop
4 nights - 30 minutes
We are wrapping up our social issues unit this week by taking a look at our personal perspectives and opening our minds to a variety of texts to teach us about the social issues we have been studying. After this week, we will take a few weeks to dig deeply into reading comprehension work and preparing for the ERBs.
Writing Workshop
Homework: Please complete the WPP prompt, "Your Teacher Disappears". Writers must include a gripping introduction, clear sequence in well developed body paragraphs, and a thoughtful ending. Dialogue should be included, but should not overwhelm the narrative. I expect to see meaningful dialogue tags! Transitions should be used to connect sections of the text and to make it flow together and sentence structure should vary. No one should settle with one draft - I need to see multiple revisions with effort to correcting more than spelling and grammar errors. Watch the video suggestions given to you after your first submission!
In Class: We are wrapping up our argument essays this week. Students have learned how to address the counter argument, offer a solution to solve their argument, and how to draft a strong introduction & conclusion. Final drafts are due on Thursday, April 14th.
Math Workshop
3 nights - 30 minutes
This week we will launch Unit 11! Study guides will be handed out this week. Our lessons this week will focus on:
- reviewing grams and ounces as units of mass and weight
- reviewing the properties of common geometric solids
- identifying geometric solids by their properties

Social Studies
Students completed the 'Middle Colonies' assessment last week. I am very proud of the effort students put into reviewing their exit slips, text book chapters, and study guide. We have been working on being specific and not generalizing historical facts - the hard work is paying off! Next, we will take a quick look at the 'Southern Colonies' and important geographic locations we have been studying during this entire unit.
Word Study
Sort #13 Assessment will be on Thursday, April 14th. Students should study their sort words, the noticings, and review old noticings to prepare for this assessment.
